Before gaining independence, the Indian subcontinent was home to more than 500 princely states, representing the royal lineage of India. However, following the 1970s, the traditional royalty in Indian society began to be supplanted by business magnates and, in certain instances, the wealthiest film stars and cricketers. It is not uncommon for the former royalty to intersect with the contemporary elite, as exemplified by a particular actor who resides in one of the nation's most luxurious homes.

The residences of India's most prominent film stars have transformed into popular tourist destinations. Fans frequently gather outside the homes of Shah Rukh Khan, known as Mannat, Amitabh Bachchan's Jalsa, or Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments. Given their status as the leading figures in Bollywood, one might expect that one of them would possess the most valuable property in the industry. However, this distinction belongs to a former royal, whose ancestral estate features a palace located over a thousand miles from Mumbai.

Various reports indicate that Saif Ali Khan's Pataudi Palace is valued at ₹800 crore, surpassing the worth of Mannat (₹200 crore) and Jalsa (₹100 crore). Other luxurious residences owned by Indian celebrities range from ₹50 to ₹100 crore, significantly lower than the staggering valuation of the Pataudi Palace.

All about the Pataudi Palace

The Pataudi Palace also referred to as Ibrahim Kothi, is located in the town of Pataudi, on the periphery of Gurugram, Haryana. This palace served as the residence of the former Nawab of Pataudi. Although Saif currently holds the title, it was his father and grandfather who were the titular Nawabs, governing their territory from this palace. The Ibrahim Kothi was constructed by Saif's grandfather, the former Indian cricketer Ifthikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, following his marriage to the Begum of Bhopal in the 1930s. The Nawab deemed his previous residence unsuitable for his new wife and subsequently commissioned British architect Robert Tor Russell to design a palace reminiscent of European mansions.

Saif frequently enjoys time at the palace with his wife, Kareena, and their two children, Taimur and Jeh. His children from his previous marriage, actors Ibrahim and Sara Ali Khan, also visit during holidays. Saif's sisters, Saba Ali Khan and actress Soha Ali Khan, have shared images from their visits to the palace. The Pataudi family often celebrates significant events, such as birthdays and festivals, at the palace, bringing together the entire extended family, including Saif's mother, Sharmila Tagore.

The Pataudi Palace was leased to Neemrana Hotels as a result of a debt incurred by the late Mansoor Ali Khan. In 2014, Saif reclaimed ownership of the palace and undertook renovations. Since 2015, the palace has been made available for the production of various television shows, web series, and films, including the notable project featuring Ranbir Kapoor, titled Animal.

Saif resided and was employed at this location during the filming of his Amazon Prime series, Taandav, which took place in the palace in 2021. Encompassing an area of 10 acres, the Pataudi Palace currently functions as the summer residence for the Pataudi family.
