Unni Mukundan's film Marco, an action thriller that premiered in theaters across Kerala on Friday, has garnered attention for its extreme violence, earning it a reputation as one of the most brutal offerings from Mollywood. In Marco, the menacing villain Russell is portrayed by Abhimanyu Thilakan, the eldest grandson of the esteemed actor Thilakan and son of Shammi Thilakan. Marco is depicted as the adoptive brother of George Adattu and Victor, with the Adattu family involved in gold smuggling and in conflict with their rivals, Tony Issac and Russell, played by Jagadish and Abhimanyu Thilakan, respectively.

The narrative unfolds following the murder of Victor, who is blind, at the hands of Issac and Russell, prompting Marco to embark on a violent quest as the gang warfare escalates.

Abhimanyu underwent a significant physical transformation to embody the role of the antagonist in Marco, marking his debut in this capacity. In a recent post on Instagram, he described his experience with the film as an unforgettable journey. "Portraying #Russeltonyisaac, a raw, violent, and brutal character was challenging, but the love and appreciation you've shown me and my performance mean the world," the young actor expressed on social media shortly after the film's release, which has been met with positive reviews.

Abhimanyu, the grandson of Thilakan

A distinguished surname can facilitate opportunities, particularly within the film industry. However, establishing oneself and leaving a significant impact while preserving the esteemed family name of Thilakan presents a formidable challenge. Abhimanyu Thilakan is acutely aware of his family's heritage and, in a previous interview with the Times of India, he acknowledged that comparisons with his father and grandfather, both of whom have made lasting contributions to Malayalam cinema, are inevitable.

Those who have viewed prominent Malayalam films from the 1980s and 1990s are likely familiar with the remarkable Thilakan. The seasoned actor, known for his portrayal of the malevolent stepfather in Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal, showcased his exceptional talent across a diverse range of roles in films such as Kireedam, Perumthachan, and Nadodikkattu, among many others. His son, Shammi, has also participated in several noteworthy films, including Anweshippin Kandethum, Joji, and Palthu Janwar.
