Further violent conflict is anticipated in the universe of Marco. Unni Mukundan, the principal actor of the recent Malayalam film Marco, has announced that the movie will have two additional installments and has recently provided an update regarding the release schedule for the sequel.

Directed by Haneef Adeni, the film premiered in theaters on December 20 and has rapidly gained popularity, particularly among its intended demographic of adult males aged 18 to 35. The film's global box office earnings surpassing Rs 35 crore within just four days serve as evidence of its success.

Unni Mukundan’s Marco to be a trilogy

Marco is a character from Haneef's 2019 film Mikhael, featuring Nivin Pauly in the lead role, with Unni portraying the antagonist. While the similarities between the two films are limited, the new release, which carries an A rating due to its violent content, delves into Marco's narrative. In this film, he is depicted as an anti-hero seeking vengeance following the murder of his brother by a faction involved in a gold syndicate.

The film concludes with a hint of a sequel, and Unni recently informed the media, after the film's screening, that the team intends to produce two additional installments in the Marco series, which is envisioned as a trilogy.

Regarding the anticipated timeline for the sequel's release, Unni stated, "It will take at least two years. I have several other commitments to fulfill, and Haneef will also be engaged in other projects before we come together again."

Marco surges at box office

The film, which is made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, has already grossed more than Rs 35 crore in the first four days and is expected to break into the Rs 50 crore club during Christmas.

Unni has already achieved membership in the Rs 100 crore club with the film Malikappuram, which notably premiered in theaters in December. It is worth mentioning that a sequel to this film was initially planned. The writer, Abhilash Pillai, recently expressed his aspiration to either develop the sequel or integrate the characters from Malikappuram into a more expansive narrative centered on Sabarimala and Pampa in the future.
