Marco Star Unni Mukundan Addresses Audience Feedback: 'OTT Release Will Not Work'
2 months ago | 5 Views
Unni Mukundan is currently celebrating the success of his recent film, Marco, in which he both produced and starred. This Malayalam film has sparked a debate regarding the portrayal of extreme violence in cinema and the extent to which it can be deemed acceptable. In a discussion with Anmol Jamwal on his YouTube Channel, Unni acknowledged the starkly contrasting reactions the film has elicited. Nevertheless, he emphasized that this diversity of opinion is not intended to undermine the audience's intelligence.
What Unni said
Regarding the differing responses, Unni Mukundan remarked, “When individuals describe it as disturbing, they are not criticizing the film itself; rather, they are commenting on the intensity of the action. They have not dismissed the film. Instead, they have acknowledged it as a very good film that impacted me deeply. Earlier today, my uncle contacted me and expressed, ‘It was overwhelming for me to process. However, it is simply outstanding!’”
'I don't think Marco will do any good on the OTT platform'
He further elaborated, stating, "This situation is mutually beneficial for me. I hold the view that theatres serve as a venue where strangers converge, allowing the director to engage with them uniquely. Challenging the audience is an integral aspect of the entertainment experience; one cannot simply oscillate between laughter and tears. I have reservations about Marco's potential success on the OTT platform; my instincts suggest it may not yield positive results. I anticipate that I will likely face challenges regarding the logical coherence of the narrative, as certain types of cinema are inherently suited for theatrical presentation. I intend to facilitate a disconnection from reality, which we consider our responsibility. I do not wish to underestimate the audience's intelligence by suggesting that depictions of violence will sway them; they are far too discerning."
About Marco
Marco, which premiered on December 20, features performances by Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh. The film is currently enjoying a successful run in theatres and is regarded as one of the most violent Indian films ever produced.
