Actor Manoj Bharathiraja, recognized for his roles in films such as Taj Mahal, Samudhiram, and Alli Arjuna, passed away from a heart attack in Chennai at the age of 48.

The actor's manager has confirmed to News18 the unfortunate news of his passing. Manoj, who had recently undergone bypass surgery, was recovering at his home in Chetpet when he experienced a heart attack on Tuesday evening.

His manager stated, “Manoj was in recovery following his bypass surgery. Tragically, he suffered a heart attack at his home, leaving everyone in shock. Bharathiraja Sir is en route to his residence from Neelankarai. Arrangements for the funeral and other ceremonies are still to be determined.”

Manoj is survived by his wife, Ashwathi, also known as Nandana, and their two daughters, Arshitha and Mathivathani. His most recent appearance was in the Tamil web series Snakes and Ladders, which premiered in 2024.

Tributes pour in

Following the announcement of his passing, numerous celebrities expressed their grief on social media. Khushbu Sundar shared her condolences on X, previously known as Twitter. She stated, “I am deeply shocked to learn that Manoj is no longer with us. His premature departure is truly heartbreaking. At just 48 years old, he had so much more to give. I pray that God grants strength to his father, Thiru #Bharathiraaja avl, and his family as they navigate this profound loss. Manoj, you will be greatly missed. Rest in peace. Om Shanthi.”

Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu shared, “Really shocking to hear the news.. can’t believe u r no more my brother #manoj gone toooo soon… deepest condolences to @offBharathiraja uncle family and friends... may ur soul RIP:.

Son of filmmaker Bharathiraja, Manoj made his debut in his father’s film Taj Mahal. Over the years, Manoj has featured in films such as Allu Arjuna, Samidhiram, and Varshamellam Vasantham. Manoj also worked as an assistant to filmmaker Shankar in the film Enthiran. He also featured in supporting roles in projects such as Champion, Eeswaran, Maanaadu and Viruman.
