Manoj Bajpayee has been in the game for over thirty years, carving out a unique niche for himself in the industry and often going against the grain. Even though he’s starred in over 100 films, he openly acknowledges the struggles he faced to make it big. After years filled with challenges, disappointments, and setbacks, he’s finally able to tell the stories that resonate with him. In a recent chat with the Indian Express, Bajpayee opened up about his journey and the backlash he’s received for being perceived as arrogant.
Keeping out of the limelight.
The actor shared his thoughts on how he manages to steer clear of drama and keep a low profile. He mentioned that he hasn't really faced any big controversies, and he simply doesn't go to parties. Bajpayee is actually pretty happy that folks have stopped inviting him; they've figured out that his absence isn't a big deal. He likes to hit the hay around 10:00 to 10:30 PM and looks forward to his early mornings, so he hopes people won't ring him up during that time.
Bajpayee also shared that he sometimes hangs out with his director friends. Even though he knows Sharib Hashmi, he doesn't have a ton of connections in the acting world. He really looks up to Kay Kay Menon and knows him well. As for Nawazuddin Siddiqui, their hectic schedules make it tough for them to catch up often.
Feedback on self-assurance perceived as arrogance.
Bajpayee responded to the criticism about his seemingly flashy confidence by saying that those who don’t know him might see him that way. His shyness or reserved nature has made some people think he’s really full of himself. He keeps his personal life pretty private, and if someone thinks he’s arrogant, that’s fine. Once they actually sit down and chat with him, they’ll see things differently; he’s a grateful person. He holds himself in high regard, but he’s definitely not stuck-up.
Bajpayee is back in action with his latest role in the film Despatch, which you can currently stream on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium).
