Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Netflix series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was released in 2023. The series casts Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Fardeen Khan, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Pratibha Ranta. The eight-episodic series showcases the lives of tawaifs or courtesans in the red-light district of Lahore during India's freedom movement. A few months ago, the streaming platform confirmed the second season and now in a new interview, Manisha who played the role of Mallikajaan, opened up about Heeramandi 2. 

Manisha Koirala calls Heeramandi 'project of a lifetime'

In an interview with India Today, Manisha Koirala was asked about Heeramandi 2. She said that she does not have any updates as Sanjay Leela Bhansali is busy with Love & War.

The actress shared, “I don't know when it will start. Sanjay is currently working on Love and War. I think we will have an idea only after that. But I am very excited about the Heeramandi 2 announcement. It's a project of a lifetime.”

Manisha Koirala says she is not interested in side roles

During the conversation, Manisha also discussed career goals and said that she is selective about her roles. 

She thinks after everything she has been through especially cancer and in her 50th decade, the actress in a space where she is enjoying life. 

"I am definitely looking at working with good directors, but I am not too eager to take up any roles. I am not interested in doing something that I have done before. I am not too eager to take up side-roles. I want to explore a new dimension to acting. I want to be challenged," Koirala added. 

About Heeramandi 2

Netflix confirmed the second season of Heeramandi, and the franchise with Sanjay Leela Bhansali at the helm continues. The announcement was made in Mumbai at an event on Carter Road, where 100 dancers dressed in Heeramandi-inspired costumes danced to the songs from the show. By the end of the performance, they revealed the announcement that the series had been renewed for a second season. 

Talking to the publication about Heeramandi season 2, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, “It takes a lot to make a series. This one has taken a lot. After Gangubai [Berlinale title Gangubai Kathiawadi] was released in February 2022, from that to now every single day I have worked without a break. So the responsibility is huge on the series.”
