Nearly two years after attending the pooja ceremony for Mohanlal’s directorial debut, Barroz, Malayalam superstar Mammootty was among the first to extend his best wishes to Mohanlal in anticipation of the film's release, which is a 3D children's fantasy.
Although Mammootty, who is collaborating with Mohanlal in Mahesh Narayanan’s high-budget film, was unable to attend the preview screening of Barroz held in Chennai on December 23, he took to social media to express his enthusiasm for the project ahead of its Christmas debut.

Mammootty extends his best wishes to Mohanlal for his directorial debut. In his post, the Rorschach star stated, “Barroz marks the first directorial venture of Mohanlal, who has captivated and entertained us with his extraordinary acting skills for many years. I am certain that the experience he has accumulated will greatly benefit the film. Wishing my dear Lal all the success. With prayers and love, your Mammootty.”
In Barroz, Mohanlal portrays a 300-year-old guardian of treasure, tasked with protecting the riches of Vasco Da Gama until the rightful heir arrives. While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the film's central character is a teenage girl named Isabella.
In a previous interview, cinematographer Santosh Sivan mentioned that Barroz is inspired by a Portuguese folktale and features numerous characters from Spain and Portugal, with dialogues in those languages as well.
Mohanlal recently elaborated that the film explores themes of “longing and integrity.” He has incorporated Fado songs into the film to express the century-long dedication and commitment of Barroz to his master.
Mohanlal’s Barroz to clash with Unni Mukundan’s Marco
Mohanlal’s Barroz is set to compete with Unni Mukundan’s Marco. The superstar also noted that the film is primarily targeted at children and includes several animated sequences, one of which features him as an octopus. “The ocean and water are significant elements in the film,” he remarked, adding that it also introduces an animated character named Voodoo, designed to engage young audiences.
