Since the announcement of the collaboration between renowned filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery and the esteemed actor Mohanlal for the film Malaikottai Vaaliban, anticipation among fans reached unprecedented levels. However, upon its theatrical release on January 25, 2024, the much-anticipated partnership did not resonate with a significant portion of the audience. In light of this, the film's producer, Shibu Baby John, has addressed the performance of Malaikottai Vaaliban, refuting assertions of it being a failure and dismissing the possibility of a sequel.

Malaikottai Vaaliban producer of Mohanlal-starrer 

Malaikottai Vaaliban is approaching the one-year anniversary of its theatrical release. In a recent interview with Mathrubhumi, Shibu Baby John, co-producer of the film, discussed its performance, asserting that the Mohanlal-starrer should not be classified as a failure.

"It was not a flop, no. While it did not meet our expectations, an analysis of the film's revenue and other metrics indicates that it cannot be deemed unsuccessful," the producer remarked, noting that he managed to navigate the situation with minimal financial losses.

The co-producer of Malaikottai Vaaliban responded negatively when inquired about the possibility of a reunion involving Lijo, Mohanlal, and Shibu Baby John for an upcoming project. 

"We currently have no intentions of collaborating with this trio. Additionally, there will not be a sequel to Malaikottai Vaaliban. We will only proceed with a film when we find a suitable subject for Mohanlal," he clarified, emphasizing that any announcement regarding the movie will be made only after confirming the quality of the subject.

Malaikottai Vaaliban plot

Malaikottai Vaaliban tells the story of a legendary warrior who has never been defeated, embarking on a journey to find a formidable adversary. Throughout his numerous battles, he confronts the nefarious Chamathakan. Although Vaaliban emerges victorious, he inadvertently creates a foe in Chamathakan, who vows to take revenge.

The film, set in an epic historical context, received a mixed reception and fell short of the expectations of Mohanlal's fans, who were likely anticipating a more mainstream cinematic experience from The Complete Actor. Malaikottai Vaaliban is currently available for streaming on Hotstar in five languages, including Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
