Mahira Khan is a top star in Pakistani films. A few years back, she stirred up quite a bit of drama when she was seen smoking with Ranbir Kapoor in New York. In a recent chat with BBC Asian Network, she opened up about the intense backlash she received during that period, admitting that she really believed her career might be finished after that incident.

Mahira's comments.

Mahira shared during the interview, "It's been quite a wild journey. My audience has been right there with me through it all. From the divorce to having a baby, and my little one being part of this adventure, to being single for ages, and those photos surfacing, plus a ban in another country... it's all been pretty wild. There were definitely some challenging moments and some incredible ones too, but I've also faced tougher times that I've decided to keep to myself."

I’d just stay in bed all day.

She added, “When the photos were released, there was this article titled ‘The Little White Dress’ published by the BBC, and honestly, I didn’t appreciate how brilliant it was back then. I think I might have, though. I remember reading it and feeling like, ‘Is this the end of my career?’ The article mentioned how I had achieved a level of success in Pakistan that was unprecedented, with all the endorsements and everything, and now it seemed like it was all slipping away. I read it and thought, ‘Wow.’ But then I reminded myself, ‘Are you crazy? This isn’t the end,’ maybe it was my inner 14-year-old Mahira speaking. Still, I won’t sugarcoat it; that period was really hard. I struggled to get out of bed, cried every day, and it took a toll on both my personal and professional life.”

Mahira made her Bollywood debut in Raees, starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Recently, she appeared in The Legend of Maula Jatt with Fawad Khan. In 2023, she married Salim Karim.
