Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, who entered Bollywood alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film Raees, has voiced her irritation regarding the frequent inquiries about her co-star. Recently, Mahira articulated her belief that she is unjustly accused of leveraging Shah Rukh's name for publicity, a notion she strongly refutes.
Mahira Khan breaks her silence
Mahira addressed the issue of being trolled for mentioning Shah Rukh Khan during her interviews at the Aalami Urdu Conference 2024, which was moderated by Waseem Badami and Tabish Hashmi.
In the discussion, Mahira was inquired whether she feels irritated by the frequent questions regarding Shah Rukh in her interviews. She posed the question, “Whenever there’s an interview, they always ask how it felt to work with Shah Rukh Khan. Do you think it is fine?”
In response, Mahira stated, “I will never tire of discussing Shah Rukh. When someone asks me about him, I provide an answer. However, people then assume that I am the one initiating the conversation about him. I never bring him up on my own.”
The host subsequently highlighted the issue of being trolled, as numerous social media users accused her of leveraging her name. In response, Mahira stated, “The only thought that crosses my mind at that moment is to refrain from asking me anything about Shah Rukh.”
During the discussion, Mahira also referred to Shah Rukh as her “childhood love.”
Mahira’s Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh
In 2017, Mahira made her debut in Bollywood alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film Raees, which was directed by Rahul Dholakia and also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The action movie received a favourable reception and performed well at the box office. However, due to the prohibition on Pakistani artists in the Indian film industry, she was unable to promote her film in India. Since then, she has not participated in any other Indian projects.
Earlier this year, Mahira shared a significant life lesson imparted by Shah Rukh during a discussion on X, previously known as Twitter. Reflecting on her experience working with him, she addressed a question regarding the insights she gained from Shah Rukh while filming Raees. In response, Mahira stated, “Give happiness a chance baby (smile emoji).”
Recently, in an interview with FWhy Podcast, Mahira disclosed that she has developed strategies to confront her mental health challenges, particularly following her entry into Bollywood with the film Raees and the incident in 2017 when images of her smoking alongside actor Ranbir Kapoor surfaced on the internet.
