Actor Madhuri Dixit recently participated in a podcast with her husband, Dr. Sriram Nene, and their children to explore the topic of parenthood. In the conversation, Madhuri's son Ryan openly recognized the advantages associated with being part of a celebrity family, referring to it as an "understatement."
Madhuri Dixit's son talks about privilege
Madhuri participated in a podcast alongside her husband, Dr. Sriram Nene, where they explored topics such as parenthood and the immigrant experience. Their two sons, Arin and Ryan, along with Sriram's parents, contributed to the discussion, sharing insights from their lives across three continents and the adaptations they made in response to various challenges.
During the dialogue, Sriram noted that his sons enjoy certain privileges that were not available to him or his parents. In response, Ryan remarked that describing these privileges as "some" is an "understatement." Sriram then emphasized the importance of self-acceptance, stating, “It is perfectly fine to embrace who you are. One should not feel entitled to think that these advantages are exclusive; they are meant for everyone, and it is essential to give back to society. Excuses are not valid, as one has no control over the circumstances of their birth.”
Sriram and his family discuss staying abroad and in India
The family engaged in a discussion about the contrasts between living in India and abroad, with Sriram emphasizing the significant evolution of his home country. He inquired whether his parents considered the United States to be superior, to which his mother responded, “I enjoy being here, but I also long for my homeland.”
Throughout their dialogue, Sriram’s family contemplated the differences between life in India and overseas. He noted the advancements India has achieved over the years. Seeking his parents' views, he asked if they thought the US was a better place. His mother expressed, “I value the comforts here, yet I profoundly miss my country.” Sriram’s parents relocated abroad in the 1970s, and his mother acknowledged that India has undergone significant changes since that time.
He remarked, “There are opportunities and hope now. In the past, we had to import most of our needs, but today, there are individuals creating products in India for the Indian market.”
The doctor mentioned that each generation faces its own set of challenges, stating, “I was initially a UK citizen and traveled to the USA by boat, eventually becoming a citizen there. You both (Arin and Ryan) experienced reverse migration when you returned to India.”
In a previous podcast episode, Ryan had spoken about his privileges, to which his father responded that they aimed to provide as normal an upbringing as possible. Sriram noted that despite their family background, the children remain grounded, having never been raised with undue privilege.
Ryan commented, “We grew up in a very different environment compared to many people I’ve encountered. Certainly, we’ve had a much easier experience than the average individual. Whether or not I consider myself grounded is not for me to say. I can only hope that others see me that way, or that my behavior reflects that.”
