Suraj Venjaramoodu's latest film, MURA, hit the big screens on November 8. The action drama, which also stars All We Imagine As Light-fame Hridhu Haroon, is receiving praise from the audience for its authenticity in both plot and acting. Muhammad Mushtafa, the director of MURA, discussed what works well for this movie and his approach to filmmaking after directing his first flick, Kappela, in a conversation with OTTplay.

'Performances in MURA are sure to surprise the audience'

The film's intruging point, according to the young filmmaker, is the audience's surprise at the performances of the complete cast of MURA. "The audience would find it fascinating that every character in this film is going through an emotional journey. I have made every effort to make the most of the young performers in this movie and to show the audience how talented they are," he remarked.

Mushtafa said he was sure that MURA benefits from publicity through word-of-mouth. "I was focused on delivering a good film, as nowadays people look up to our industry and films," he stated. The director continued by saying that he and Suresh Babu, the writer of MURA, have known each other for 15 years and that this film was one of the many stories they had talked about during that period.

'Worked on a Tamil project after Kappela'

Mushtafa is directing MURA four years after his first film, Kappela, was released. Regarding the extended pause, the filmmaker disclosed that he spent more than two years working on a Tamil project during this time. He also mentioned that during these years, he was working on a few additional scripts. "In my opinion, it was never a break. I worked behind the scenes on a couple scripts while I was in the business. Even though I only had a small part in a few films, I didn't hesitate to act in them," he remarked. The director went on to say that he takes a long time to finish a script because he is totally preoccupied with the smallest details.
