It appears that Netflix may have inadvertently revealed information regarding the final season of Squid Game, which is speculated to be released in 2025. Following a three-year hiatus for the second season, which concluded on a suspenseful cliffhanger, fans were concerned about the possibility of enduring an additional 2-3 years for the concluding instalment. However, it seems that the streaming platform may have "accidentally" suggested that the wait could be shorter than anticipated, or perhaps they are simply adept at creating suspenseful marketing strategies.

Netflix teases Squid Game 3 release date

Following the achievement of six Primetime Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe, Netflix's most popular series of 2021, Squid Game, concluded its second season on the streaming platform. Unfortunately, the finale did not meet the expectations of its audience. Nevertheless, fans found solace in the announcement of a third season, which was subtly included in the teaser that was subsequently released.

The teaser, showcasing the eerie robot duo Young Hee and her newly introduced companion Chul Su, initially provided a release date of June 27, 2025. However, this information, along with the teaser itself, was swiftly removed from Netflix Korea's YouTube channel, leaving fans confused and anxious for official confirmation.

Viewers quickly identified what seemed to be an error on Netflix's part. In the teaser, the notorious "Jack and Jill" robot dolls were depicted initiating a brand-new game. The title of the video indicated Squid Game Season 3 2025 Release. Online discussions have erupted, with many questioning whether this was an actual mistake or a strategic move by Netflix to generate buzz. Regardless, fans are relieved that they will not have to endure a lengthy wait for another thrilling instalment.

About Squid Game Season 3

The forthcoming release is frequently labeled as Squid Game season 3; however, creator Hwang Dong Hyuk has clarified that it should be viewed as a continuation of Season 2, or Part 2, rather than a conventional new season. The rationale behind this distinction is as follows:

Hwang initially envisioned Squid Game as a singular series. Nevertheless, as the narrative evolved and the show achieved global acclaim, it expanded beyond the confines of a single season. The plot, which chronicles Gi Hun's return to the game and his efforts to instigate a rebellion, naturally divides into two segments.

“Gi-hun's revolt leading to failure, culminating in the loss of his best friend, represents a significant climactic moment in the first half of the season, thus transitioning into season two,” Hwang stated in an interview with Variety.

The production of both seasons occurred concurrently, resulting in this release being a substantial 14-episode thriller divided into two parts. Therefore, while it is not technically Season 3, Netflix has chosen to label it as such, likely in recognition of the audience's anticipation for the resolution of the cliffhangers from Season 2.
