Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, has garnered immense love since it was released. Aamir Khan produced film won people's hearts due to its simple yet heart-touching writing and the cast's amazing performances. Now, as everyone was expecting, during an event in Chennai, members of The Film Federation of India announced Laapataa Ladies as India’s official entry to the 97th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Film Category.

The Film Federation of India recently announced that Laapataa Ladies has entered the Best Foreign Film Category at the 97th Academy Awards. The jury members were introduced to the media by Ravi Kottarakara, President of the Film Federation of India.

The film features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. 

The 13-member select committee headed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua unanimously decided on Laapataa Ladies for reckoning in the best international film category at the Academy Awards.

Kiran Rao's Oscars dream for Laapataa Ladies

Recently, Kiran said that her dream would be fulfilled if Laapataa Ladies would go to the Oscars. "But it's a process, and I'm hoping it'll (Laapataa Ladies) be considered. I'm sure the best film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things,” Kiran told PTI.

During a press screening for the movie earlier in February, Kiran stated that their primary recognition comes from the audience's response at the box office and added that if the viewers and the nation appreciate their work, that would be the greatest accolade for them. 

“There is a specific community tasked with assessing and selecting the finest films of the year, and if our film is deemed worthy, we will submit it for the prestigious Oscars. However, for now, we are eagerly anticipating the recognition we are yet to receive on March 1, 2024, hinting at the film's release," she had said.

Meanwhile, Laapataa Ladies is currently streaming on Netflix. The film revolves around a twist on events when two newly wedded brides inadvertently get exchanged. This causes both women to go through a rollercoaster of ridiculous predicaments.
