Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi's daughter, Kaveri Kapur, has made her debut in Bollywood, appearing alongside Vardhan Puri, the grandson of Amrish Puri, in Kunal Kohli's latest film, Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story. This romantic drama premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on February 11.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kaveri and Vardhan discussed their experiences collaborating with Kunal, who is renowned for his successful romantic dramas such as Fanaa and Hum Tum. Kunal also elaborated on how Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story stands apart from his earlier works in the genre and the reasons behind his selection of Kaveri and Vardhan for the leading roles.

Kunal Kohli on Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story

When inquired about the distinguishing features of Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story compared to his previous romantic dramas such as Fanaa and Hum Tum, Kunal remarked, "This one is the most endearing of all, showcasing the most charming couple. We consistently seek unique elements in a love story. I believe the charm and novelty will be evident. In a time when many portrayals are artificial and enhanced, we present two genuine, sweet faces. I believe this authenticity is what renders Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story exceptional."

Kaveri and Vardhan on working with Kunal

Kaveri expressed that collaborating with Kunal Kohli was an extraordinary experience, highlighting the enjoyment she had on set. She remarked that despite her lack of prior acting experience, Kunal had a remarkable ability to comprehend her personality and provided guidance that enabled her to perform at her best. The advice he offered to both her and her co-star was tailored yet effective. Additionally, she emphasized the fun she had during the filming, noting her sadness at the conclusion of the project, which even brought her to tears. Kaveri conveyed her deep gratitude to Kunal, not only for granting her the opportunity to participate in her debut film but also for helping her uncover a passion for acting that she had not previously recognized. She admitted that she had never considered a career in acting, but her time working with him ignited a love for the craft that significantly altered her life’s trajectory.

Vardhan described his experience working with Kunal as transformative, stating, "This is the most cherished I have ever felt on a film set, and I owe it all to Kunal sir. He created an atmosphere of warmth, comfort, and safety—instilling a sense of calm and ease. He is among the most collaborative talents in the Indian film industry, and I regard him as a kind and empathetic genius. Collaborating with him has been a dream come true. When he shared his vision with me, it reminded me of the first time I watched Hum Tum. He was a pioneer of the multiplex hero concept, and I admire how he remained true to his vision throughout the filming process."

Kunal on how he cast Kaveri and Vardhan

Kunal Kohli reflected on the casting process, recalling his encounter with Kaveri in Mauritius alongside her father, and explained the reasons behind his decision to cast her. He mentioned, "During an event, I was engaged in conversation with Shekhar (Kapur) when Kaveri approached us with a friend. She playfully reprimanded Shekhar and then walked away—much like a daughter would. My own daughter behaves similarly! I was captivated by the way she interacted with him. Subsequently, I observed them together in various settings, and their connection exuded a remarkable innocence." In her defense, Kaveri remarked that her father's behavior was quite unreasonable, thus justifying her outburst.

He further elaborated, "Vardhan, one of the producers, shared his profile with me. Upon reviewing it, I thought, This individual complements Kaveri perfectly. I reached out to him, and within ten minutes, he arrived. Our discussion did not center on the role; rather, I aimed to assess his interpersonal skills, similar to my observations of Kaveri. A piece of advice from Yash ji has always resonated with me: While talent may vary, the individual must be exceptional. Vardhan embodies this notion, not only as a person but also in terms of his talent. Upon meeting him, I recognized that he possessed the innocence, energy, and spark essential for the film."
