Throughout her two-decade career, Soha Ali Khan has never portrayed a villain. This may be the reason she is particularly enthusiastic about her upcoming role in Chhorii 2. The horror thriller presents the actress in a completely new light. In an interview with HT prior to the film's release, Soha discusses her experience of taking on an 'evil' character for the first time.
Soha Ali Khan on going evil for Chhorii 2
When inquired about the experience of portraying a negative character in a horror film, Soha remarked, "In the past, I have been offered roles that are quite dignified, typically portraying the girl-next-door. However, Dasi maa, my character in Chhorii 2, is entirely different and pushes me beyond my comfort zone, both physically and emotionally."
We humorously note that recently, Soha seems to take on projects that her daughter, Inaaya, will not be able to watch for several years, prompting a laugh from her. "She is quite frightened by any form of conflict. At 7 years old, she won't even watch Moana—not because of the lava monster, but due to the scene where the father gets angry with the daughter," Soha explains with amusement. She also mentions that she has discussed her role in Chhorii 2 with Inaaya. "I told her that I am playing an evil character. She grasps the idea of evil and was curious about whether I remain evil or if there is a chance for redemption. She asked me, 'Do you become good?'"

Soha clarifies that the challenge with filming Chhorii 2 was not that Inaaya was unable to view it, but rather that it disrupted their bedtime routine. She elaborates, "We were engaged in long hours of shooting with a sinister appearance, and I couldn't be present for bedtime. Typically, when I'm absent, I connect with her via FaceTime. However, this time, I preferred not to. She would call, and I would disconnect to switch to an audio call. I told her, 'Trust me, you don't want to see me like this at bedtime'." Additionally, her husband, actor Kunal Kemmu, also kept his distance while Soha was in costume. "Kunal didn't want to speak to me either. I suggested he could answer my call, but he replied, 'No, let's talk after two months'," Soha recounts.
Chhorii 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2021 film Chhorii, is directed by Vishal Furia and features Nushrratt Bharuccha reprising her role from the original. The film is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 11.
