Actor Kishore has been diligently working on his directorial debut, Drive, for an extended period. He attributes the prolonged timeline to scheduling conflicts. "I have successfully filmed significant portions that were initially scheduled. As I am also producing the film, my primary challenge has been planning; I must fulfill all my acting obligations, which are essential for financing the production. Being both the director and producer, I am acutely aware of the production constraints; failing to adhere to the planned schedule can lead to unforeseen expenses, which subsequently impact other related tasks," he articulated during an interview with Kairam Vaashi while promoting his recent Kannada film, Anamadheya Ashok Kumar.

Kishore reflected on his experience as a director, noting that his background as an actor brings a unique visualization to the process, which may not always coincide with the interpretation of the actors he directs. He found this aspect of filmmaking particularly intriguing. For example, he mentioned working with actor Avinash, where his expectations did not always match the performances delivered. Kishore emphasized the importance of recognizing that it can be counterproductive to insist on a specific outcome from an actor, as they may execute a scene in a manner that surpasses his original vision. He highlighted the challenge of knowing when to accept an actor's interpretation and move forward, as well as the value of appreciating another actor's perspective.

All about Kishore's directorial, Drive

The film, as described by Kishore, presents itself as a thriller while simultaneously serving as a political satire. "Drive" narrates a story of migration that reflects the prevailing political and social atmosphere in the nation. The plot follows a team investigating a crime committed by a migrant amidst communal unrest in Udupi. "Initially, a particular individual is perceived as the perpetrator, but as the narrative unfolds, it becomes evident that anyone has the potential to be a criminal. This theme is extensively explored through dialogue," Kishore elaborates, noting that the film relies heavily on conversations.

The narrative's political tone is deliberate, asserts Kishore, who strongly contends that it tackles subjects deserving of discussion in a public setting. He believes that, beyond being a political satire, it also serves as a tale of self-reflection. Kishore further explains that the aim was to bring attention to several significant issues, and the challenge lay in determining which characters would effectively convey these themes for the greatest impact.
