Kishore Explores the Political Angle Behind His Appointment as BIFFes Brand Ambassador

Actor Kishore has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the 16th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival, which is set to occur from March 1 to March 8. Although he was initially reluctant to take on this role, which does not entail any decision-making duties, Kishore has conveyed a deep sense of pride in his connection to the festival, especially considering this year's theme: Universal Peace in Diversity.

Kishore: I am representing the people at Biffes

Kishore's recent appointment has raised concerns that the state government intentionally selected him due to his often politically charged commentary on social media, which critiques members of the Central government and their policies. In an interview with TV9 Kannada addressing these concerns, Kishore refuted the claims, asserting, “I have not been chosen because I oppose certain individuals, but that does not mean I support the ruling party in the state either. I do not affiliate with any political party; my purpose at the festival is to represent the people.”

The actor underscores that his loyalty lies with the public, as his career is sustained by the financial support of audiences who choose to view his performances. He articulates that his relationship with the audience is profoundly emotional rather than simply transactional. “Why do people come back to see you in films repeatedly? They go to theatres not just for outstanding movies, but also for those that may not meet their expectations. In fact, they often overlook such flaws, attributing them to factors beyond your control, and they remain hopeful for a better performance in the future,” he elaborates.

A film festival acts as a platform for exposing audiences to a variety of cultures through the medium of cinema, thus promoting their intellectual and emotional growth, as stated by Kishore. Festival organizers assert that selecting Kishore as the brand ambassador seeks to confront the stereotype that only 'heroes' can symbolize the film industry. Additionally, Kishore's position as a strong proponent of democracy renders him an appropriate choice for a festival that celebrates one of its core principles.
