South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun became emotional while speaking to the media for the first time following the death of his former girlfriend, Kim Sae Ron, on February 16 of this year. He acknowledged their relationship but emphasized that she was not a minor at the time. Nevertheless, some internet users have accused him of 'faking tears.'

Internet slams Kim Soo Hyun for ‘faking tears’

After the press conference, social media was inundated with responses. One user on X posted a photo of himself in tears, commenting, "Does he think this is Queen of Tears Season 2? Do we look gullible enough to fall for his staged emotions? He can shed tears in prison." Another user remarked, "Not #KimSooHyun weeping in public, pleading for compassion while refuting all allegations—just as anticipated. I see no distinction between his emotional scenes in dramas and reality. IT'S ALL A CHARADE."

Numerous individuals expressed comparable opinions, stating, "He is currently featured in a new drama called King of Tears," and, "These are just crocodile tears." One observer noted, "He is a leading actor for a reason—those tears flow effortlessly." Others even inquired, "Is he trying out for a K-drama or something? No one is convinced by these tears." Another commenter added, "And the Oscar goes to..."

However, some defended him. One user wrote, "I hope you don’t feel sorry for him only after he ends his life, like you did with Kim Sae Ron!" Another added, "People criticize him for speaking, but also for staying silent—there's no winning here."

What Kim Soo Hyun said at the press conference

The actor from Queen of Tears explained his earlier denial of a romantic relationship with Sae Ron when rumors first emerged. He remarked, "When the deceased shared a photo of us together during the filming of Queen of Tears, I refuted the dating rumors. We were in a relationship for about a year, starting five years ago—four years prior to the show's release. I recognize that some may criticize my decision or question my current statements."

He acknowledged that, as the lead in Queen of Tears, he could not publicly acknowledge their relationship due to the potential repercussions for the cast and crew. In response to claims that he had dated Sae Ron while she was still a minor, he clarified, "I want to address the primary concern—I did not date the deceased when she was underage. It is also false to suggest that she made a tragic decision because I distanced myself from her or due to pressure from my agency regarding her debt. While we were both actors, we were simply an ordinary couple who dated with sincere intentions, and eventually, we parted ways. After our breakup, we had little contact."

He also shared an audio recording, which he asserted demonstrated that Sae Ron was not coerced by his agency, Gold Medalist, to repay her debt to him. Furthermore, he accused her agency of dishonesty and emphasized that he would only be accountable for his own actions.
