In the wake of Kim Sae Ron's tragic passing, a close associate of the South Korean actress disclosed that the news of her unexpected death came as a shock. The young actress, who was only 24 years old, was discovered deceased in her residence located in the Seongdong District of Seoul on Sunday. A close friend shared with the media outlet OSEN that she was in the process of preparing for her return to acting with the film Guitar Man.

Having made her acting debut at the age of nine, Kim gained prominence through her performances in films such as The Man from Nowhere and The Neighbor. Her recent role in the 2023 Netflix K-drama Bloodhounds further solidified her prominent status within the Hallyu wave. Unfortunately, her career faced a setback following a drunk-driving incident in May 2022, which led her to withdraw from her role in the Trolley series for personal reflection.

The incident, which occurred in the Gangnam District, resulted in damage to property. Kim was subsequently fined 20 million won, equivalent to approximately $13,850 USD.

Guitar Man director pays tribute to Kim Sae Ron

In contrast to the public humiliation that led the actress to retreat from the spotlight, the director of her final film, which is set to be released posthumously, expressed only admiration for her.

Following the tragic announcement of Kim's passing, Shin Jae Ho, the director of Guitar Man, honoured her memory. "I first encountered Kim Sae-ron during the script reading for 'Guitar Man.' She radiated brightness and authenticity. After the reading, we shared a meal and engaged in a wonderful conversation," he shared in an exclusive interview with the Hankook Ilbo on Monday.

Emphasizing her acting talent despite her prolonged absence from the industry due to her DUI incident, he remarked, “She was brimming with energy. Even after years in the field, she maintained an exceptional level of professionalism.”

“On set, she did not come across as a young actress; rather, she possessed the demeanour of a seasoned professional. Among the cast of 'Guitar Man,' she had the most extensive experience and demonstrated extraordinary skill,” he further noted.

Kim Sae Ron's last film staff shocked by her sudden death

Recognizing the late actress's unwavering commitment to her profession, Shin remarked, “She had an extraordinary ability to uplift the atmosphere on set with her cheerful demeanour. While she was thorough and precise in her work, she remained humble and approachable in her everyday interactions.

“I recall her generosity in gifting clothing to the crew, leaving behind a multitude of cherished memories.” The director further noted that the devastated team members were still grappling with the unexpected loss.

“She portrayed the keyboardist in an obscure band within the film, and I am aware that she practised the keyboard with great diligence,” Shin reflected on her role in the upcoming movie. He expressed his sorrow, stating, “Her passion for music was genuine. We supported one another throughout the filming process, which makes this loss even more difficult to comprehend. I am profoundly saddened.”

Kim Sae Ron's death is under investigation

A friend ultimately found Sae Ron’s body after she failed to attend a scheduled meeting, according to reports. The police stated, “We have not found any signs of foul play as of yet, but we are investigating the circumstances of the death.”

Bloodhounds was intended to mark Kim’s return to acting. However, due to the surrounding controversy, her role was removed from the film. She had also intended to take part in the play “Dongchimi” last year but ultimately withdrew from that opportunity as well. Guitar Man is anticipated to be the late Kim Sae Ron’s final film and her last project overall. The movie is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year. It remains uncertain how prominently Kim will feature in the film.
