Actor Kichcha Sudeep has chosen to forgo the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor, which he received for his role in the 2019 sports drama Pailwaan. He stated that he ceased accepting awards several years ago for personal reasons.
Kichcha Sudeepa issues a statement
On Thursday, the actor utilized X, previously known as Twitter, to explain his decision to decline the award.
"I am deeply honoured to have received the state award in the best actor category from the esteemed Government of Karnataka and the Members of the Jury, and I sincerely thank the jury for this recognition. However, I must convey that I have made the decision to refrain from accepting awards for several years, a choice rooted in personal reasons that I intend to maintain," he stated.
Kichcha further remarked, "There are numerous talented actors who have dedicated themselves to their art and would value this esteemed recognition far more than I would. It would bring me greater joy to witness one of them being honoured. My commitment to entertaining audiences has always been driven by passion rather than the pursuit of awards, and this acknowledgement from the jury alone provides me with a significant motivation to continue striving for excellence."
The actor conveyed his appreciation to each jury member for their decision to honour him with the award.
He stated, “This acknowledgement stands as my true reward. I extend my heartfelt apologies to the jury members and the state government for any discontent my choice may bring, and I hope you will understand and support my decision as I pursue my chosen path. Once more, I express my gratitude to the esteemed jury members and the state government for acknowledging my efforts and considering me for this accolade.”
Kiccha Sudeep picked for the honour
On Wednesday, the government of Karnataka revealed the recipients of the State Annual Film Awards for the year 2019. Kiccha and Anupama Gowda were honoured with the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively. Kiccha received this accolade for his performance in the film Pailwan, while Anupama was recognized for her role in Trayambakam.
The significant delay of five years in the awards presentation is primarily attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, as stated in a government release. Awards for the years 2020 to 2024 have yet to be announced.
Additional awardees include V Harikrishna, who won Best Music for his compositions in Yajamana, featuring Darshan, and Darling Krishna, who secured the Best Screenplay award for his directorial debut, Love Mocktail, a romantic drama.
