Kiccha Sudeep fans can finally heave a sigh of relief. After months of silence about the release of the Kannada superstar’s film Max, today, the makers have announced when the action-packed thriller will finally be in theatres. The speculation in the last few days was that Max would be a 2024 release after all, and that turned out to be true. It was said that Max would either hit theatres closer to December 20, or move to the 27th, but what was just announced is neither here nor there.

Kiccha Sudeep’s film will be in theatres on December 25, Christmas, which is a Wednesday. It’s a bold decision, considering that the Christmas week, starting from the 20th is chock-a-block with releases from across the country and the world. On December 20, there’s Vijay Sethupathi’s Viduthalai Part 2, Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle, Unni Mukundan’s Marco, Himesh Reshammiya’s Badass Ravikumar and Allari Naresh’s Bachchala Malli, followed by Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, Mohanlal’s directorial debut Barroz on December 25. This is, of course, excluding Real Star Upendra’s UI, which is still said to be a December 20 release.

This year, Sudeep is giving his fans a film and not cricket, considering that Christmas is when he usually conducts the Kannada Chalanachitra Cup.

Max was entirely shot on set in Mahablipuram and the cast and crew have been tight-lipped about it. Sudeep is in cop mode yet again, playing an officer called Arjun Mahakshay. A brief synopsis floating on the internet states that the plot revolves around something that happens almost immediately after he returns to service following a suspension, hinting at the hot-headed nature of the protagonist. The title promo and a subsequent teaser also hinted at the film being action packed, with fights and bloodshed galore.

Max was announced as a pan-India release, but sources say that the focus will, primarily, be on the Kannada, Tamil and Telugu versions of the film. Joining Sudeep on the cast are Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Vamshi Krishna, Pramod Shetty, Sunil, Samyukta Hornad, Ugramm Manju and Sukrutha Wagle, among others. The film has music by Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematography by Shekhar Chandra.
