Khushi Kapoor's Struggles with Self-Esteem Linked to Appearance Criticism: "I Don't Look Like My Mother or Sister"

Actor Khushi Kapoor has candidly discussed the negative remarks and severe trolling she has faced regarding her appearance throughout the years. In a recent interview with Screen, she revealed that these comments have had a significant impact on her self-esteem. Khushi also addressed the criticism she has encountered concerning the use of fillers.

Khushi Kapoor on being judged for her looks

In the interview, Khushi discussed the judgment she faced regarding her appearance during her childhood and its impact on her self-image. Reflecting on her differences in looks compared to her mother, Sridevi, and her sister, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi remarked, “It’s a vicious cycle. As a young girl, I was ridiculed for my appearance. I didn’t resemble my mother or sister, which affected my self-esteem during formative years. I developed a strong interest in aesthetics and striving to meet certain beauty standards, which I do not consider negative, especially since these are the aspects that attract attention. I am not suggesting that people should or should not engage in such practices. While I have not undergone all the procedures that have been rumored, self-care can sometimes involve these choices. I believe that skincare and fillers should not be subjects of harsh judgment,” the actress stated.

Like many of her contemporaries, Khushi has faced criticism for purportedly undergoing cosmetic procedures, a topic she has previously acknowledged. She further expressed, “Honesty is crucial. Regardless of whether one chooses to alter their appearance, there will always be criticism. I was judged for my looks as a child and labeled in unkind ways, and when I altered my appearance, I faced scrutiny for that as well. It is essential to do what feels right for oneself.”

Last month, Khushi candidly shared her experiences with a nose job and fillers in an Instagram post.

Khushi's upcoming films

Khushi is set to appear next in the romantic comedy Loveyapa, featuring Junaid Khan. This film, directed by Advait Chandan, is scheduled for theatrical release on February 7. Following this, the actor will make her film debut alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan in Nadaaniyan. This project, helmed by debut director Shauna Gautam, is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year.
