Actor Rajiv Kapoor's passing in 2021 from a heart attack hit the film industry hard. Recently, his good friend and fellow actor Khushbu Sundar opened up about Rajiv's battle with alcoholism, which really affected his health.

Khushbu mentioned that Rajiv didn't view his drinking issue as a serious problem and instead approached it with a laid-back mindset.

Khushbu glances over her shoulder

The actor-politician opened up about her relationship with Rajiv during a chat with Vickey Lalwani. She mentioned, “He had a heart condition, but his struggle with alcohol made things worse. We really tried to help him kick that habit, but it didn’t work out. Rajiv was feeling really low. He had serious knee problems and went through a few surgeries, but they didn’t do much good. We definitely knew he wasn’t well. I was in Bombay when I got the news about Chimpu’s passing. Boney Kapoor called me and said, ‘Chimpu is no more.’ It hit me hard.”

In the same interview, Khushbu recalled that she had talked to Rajiv just a day before he passed away, saying, “I spoke to Chimpu the day before he died. He had a really high fever during the COVID-19 outbreak. Even though he was sick, he was still his cheerful self… He didn’t take his health seriously and promised to meet up soon. His death was a total shock. It’s rare to find someone so full of life and dedicated to their friends. We still feel like he’s with us.”

Khushbu developed a strong friendship with Rajiv while filming Ram Teri Ganga Maili. Raj Kapoor initially wanted to launch her in a 1985 film, but Mandakini ended up taking that role. Even after more than three years since his passing, Khushbu hasn’t removed Rajiv’s number from her phone. However, she wishes she had stayed in touch with his family.

Rajiv's passing

Rajiv Kapoor, known for his role in the hit movie Ram Teri Ganga Maili, passed away from a heart attack in 2021 at the age of 58. He was the youngest son of the legendary actor and producer Raj Kapoor and the brother of the late Rishi Kapoor, as well as actor Randhir Kapoor.

Rajiv kicked off his acting career with Ek Jaan Hain Hum in 1983 and appeared in several films like Aasmaan (1984), Lover Boy (1985), and Zabardast (1985). Despite his efforts, none of these films matched the immense success of Ram Teri Ganga Maili, which was directed by his father.
