Although Yellowstone has concluded, Kevin Costner, the series' leading actor, continues to portray the authoritative and often merciless John Dutton. However, the acclaimed show is not considered suitable for family viewing in his household.

The 67-year-old actor recently explained why his wife and children avoid watching the series. “It’s too naughty for them to see, and they probably do figure out how to see it,” Costner humorously remarked during an interview with Extra.

“Yet, it contains some unpleasant elements that are entertaining for everyone else.”

Costner has been married to Christine Baumgartner for nearly 18 years, and they have three children together—Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. Additionally, he has four older children from previous relationships—Annie, Lily, Joseph, and Liam.

Kevin Costner, while often depicted as a tough and multifaceted family man in his film roles, adopts a more cautious and considerate stance regarding his children's viewing choices in real life.

He remarked, "Many of my films explore those themes, so they will inevitably encounter them as they grow up."

"They will discover it eventually. I hope they come across Fandango. I hope they understand what I have been pursuing in my career."

The California-born actor expressed similar thoughts in 2020 during the premiere of Yellowstone Season 3. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he acknowledged, "It’s quite provocative," and elaborated, "I need to review it to ensure that what remains and what is omitted is appropriate for them before they watch it."

Although Yellowstone may not cater to family audiences, Costner's children continue to be among his most ardent supporters. His eldest daughter, Annie, once stated, "Well, he doesn’t make bad movies," conveying her pride in his achievements.

Costner's daughter Lily even joined him in a musical collaboration, performing "Heaven’s Gate" with his band, Modern West. This song, included in their album Tales from Yellowstone, was featured in the series. "It’s a special treat for me when my daughter sings," Costner shared on Instagram.
