Malayalam cinema has been continuing its success streak post-pandemic, by producing commercially and critically successful films. The long-awaited Kerala State Film Awards 2024 is around the corner, and the cinephiles can’t wait to see who will grab the top awards this year. The finest talents of Malayalam cinema who made a mark in 2023, will be honoured in this edition. Reportedly, the Kerala State Film Awards 2024 is set to be announced on August 16, 2024. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Urvashi are said to be the top contenders, this time.

Kerala State Films Awards 2024 announcement date out

The highly anticipated Kerala State Film Awards 2024 will be announced at 11 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024. The prestigious awards are expected to be announced by Saji Cheriyan, the Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs at a press meet which will be held at the capital city Thiruvananthapuram. As per the reports, the Kerala State Film Awards jury members, including chairman Sudhir Mishra, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Priyanandanan, cinematographer Azhagappan, and others are expected to attend the event, along with Kerala Film Development Corporation members.

Kerala State Films Awards 2024 predictions

If the recent updates are to be believed, Prithviraj Sukumaran has a high chance of winning the Best Actor trophy this year, for his performance in Aadujeevitham. Urvashi is reportedly the strongest contender for the Best Actor trophy, for their brilliant performance in Ullozhukku. For the uninitiated, the Blessy directorial and Christo Tomy’s film which eventually hit the theatres in 2024, were originally censored in 2023. This makes both the films eligible to compete for the Kerala State Film Awards 2024.

This time, the prestigious awards had around 160 movie entries, in its first round. From the initial list, only 50 films made it to the second round of Kerala State Film Awards 2024, which are screened by filmmaker Sudhir Mishra and the other jury members. If the reports are to be believed, a couple of more award categories might get introduced this year, along with the already-existing categories.
