Keerthy Suresh recently made her debut in Bollywood, taking on the role of the female lead in the action thriller Baby John, directed by Kalees, alongside Varun Dhawan. In a conversation with Galatta India, Keerthy disclosed that her Mahanati co-star, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, had suggested her for this role.

Keerthy's statement

Samantha notably portrayed the character that Keerthy embodied in Baby John, which is a Hindi adaptation of Atlee's 2016 hit Theri. "She likely had me in mind during this process; that is what Varun mentioned to me. I am immensely grateful for that. It is incredibly kind of her to express, ‘Keerthy will be able to portray this character effectively.’ Her performance in Theri remains one of my favourites in Tamil cinema. To be honest, I felt quite apprehensive," Keerthy remarked.

"I recall her sharing a story on Instagram after viewing the trailer for Baby John, stating, ‘I wouldn’t have shared this with anyone else, but you.’ It was a thoughtful gesture that truly touched me. I could not have wished for a better debut. This character is one I deeply cherish, and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to portray it in Hindi,” she continued. Keerthy and Samantha previously appeared together in Nag Ashwin's 2018 Telugu period film Mahanati, for which Keerthy received the National Award for Best Actress.

Samantha's encouragement towards Varun

Samantha recently collaborated with Varun on Raj & DK's espionage series, Citadel: Honey Bunny, available on Prime Video India. In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Varun shared how Samantha served as a significant source of motivation for him.

“Both Citadel: Honey Bunny and Baby John represent Samantha's belief in me. We had discussions about it, and it came to fruition. I owe a great deal to Samantha for this, without a doubt. She instilled in me a strong sense of confidence that I am on the right path, which is incredibly important,” Varun stated. Samantha acknowledged the praise, expressing, “This is my manifestation for Varun. I truly believe this will be his year.”

Baby John also features Jackie Shroff, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rajpal Yadav.
