One must be exceptionally disconnected from contemporary culture to have never encountered John Wick. This franchise, featuring Keanu Reeves, stands as one of the most successful in cinematic history. It has expanded into spin-offs, streaming series, and more, yet fans remain preoccupied with a singular question: Will there be a John Wick: Chapter 5, and will Keanu Reeves reprise his role?

Given that Wick seemingly meets his end at the conclusion of Chapter 4—complete with a glimpse of his grave—many speculated that the likelihood of a continuation was minimal. However, recent announcements at CinemaCon have revealed that he is, in fact, not deceased, and Reeves will return for Chapter 5. Furthermore, there are currently three John Wick projects in development. Before Keanu Reeves returns in John Wick: Chapter 5, he will appear alongside Ana de Armas in Ballerina, which is scheduled for release on June 5, 2025. Additionally, during a successful session at CinemaCon, Lionsgate unveiled its plans for the upcoming years.

Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Chad Stahelski, and the rest of the John Wick team gathered on stage to discuss the future of the franchise, ultimately confirming three new projects. In the meantime, viewers can enjoy these action sequences featuring Keanu Reeves that redefine the action genre with their intensity.

John Wick: Chapter 5

Keanu Reeves has been officially confirmed to reprise his role as Baba Yaga, indicating that the character is very much alive—unless the narrative shifts to a ghostly theme. Chad Stahelski will remain in the director's chair, with Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee serving as co-producers. Adam Fogelson from Lionsgate remarked, “Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not come back unless they had something genuinely remarkable and innovative to contribute to these characters and this universe.”

Iwanyk and Lee added, “It’s so important to get this story right and give John’s journey the proper next step. It’s exciting to take the first step on that road.”

Caine Spin-Off

Just when we thought that was it for the John Wick universe, the makers proved us wrong. A spin-off focusing on Donnie Yen’s Caine is in the works. Caine, who underwent a compelling transformation in John Wick: Chapter 4, will have his own story set after the events of the last film. Donnie Yen himself is set to direct the movie, with The Batman Part II writer Mattson Tomlin penning the screenplay.

Fogelson stated, “From the moment Chad and Donnie pitched the idea of a Donnie Yen-style action film in the mode of John Wick, I was all in. Donnie is not only an incredible, charismatic star but also a smart, cinematic director who knows how to deliver massively entertaining action for a global audience. We’re thrilled that he’s in the director’s chair to tell Caine’s story.”

Yen added, “The John Wick films have set an immensely high standard for action filmmaking, and I greatly appreciate Lionsgate giving me the opportunity to further elevate the franchise. I am both thrilled and deeply inspired to make this happen.”

John Wick Animated Prequel

There is even more to anticipate! A third project currently in development is an animated prequel to the John Wick series. This franchise has yet to delve deeply into its backstory, making this endeavor particularly captivating. Acclaimed animation director Shannon Tindle will helm the project, while Vanessa Taylor, known for her work on Game of Thrones, will craft the screenplay.

Fogelson remarked, “In the realms of animation and the John Wick universe, the opportunities are limitless. Among the stories that fans are eager to explore, none is more sought after than the Impossible Task. Shannon’s interpretation of that narrative is remarkable, and we are thrilled to witness what John Wick can achieve through animation.”

More John Wick Universe Expansions?

Meanwhile, rumors suggest that the makers are also developing several streaming series based on the John Wick universe, including one titled Under the High Table.
