Elton John may have earned the title of "Rocket Man," but it is Katy Perry who is set to embark on a journey into space. The aerospace firm has revealed that the renowned American pop artist will be launched into space aboard a rocket operated by Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin. The 40-year-old vocalist will be part of an all-female team of six individuals participating in the forthcoming New Shepard NS-31 mission. This initiative was conceived by journalist Lauren Sanchez, who is married to the American billionaire Bezos.

The team includes Perry, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bio-astronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sanchez. This marks the 11th human flight of the New Shepard program, which transports paying customers to the brink of space.
In a post on social media, CBS Mornings announced that King would be “venturing where few have ventured before” and hinted that viewers would have the opportunity to “witness Gayle soar into the skies” in the spring.
In a video shared on her social media platforms, Lauren Sanchez, 55, expressed her hope that the mission will motivate individuals to “dream big.” “If someone had told me that I would have the chance to go to space one day, I would have certainly, well, I don’t know, laughed,” she remarked. “I can hardly believe it’s happening. My father used to teach people how to fly, and I spent time around the hangar. I thought aspiring to be a pilot was a significant ambition, and this is even more monumental. The remarkable women participating in this flight are exceptional in their respective fields, but more importantly, they are outstanding storytellers. I hope that this flight will not only be for them but also for all those with whom they share their stories. I aspire for it to ignite the imagination to dream big and reach for the stars.”
About Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin
Blue Origin has flown tourists on short hops to space since 2021. Some passengers have been given free rides, while others have paid a hefty sum to experience weightlessness. Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men in the world, climbed aboard with his brother for the inaugural flight.
