1 month ago | 5 Views
The global audience is keenly anticipating Vicky Kaushal's portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the forthcoming film Chhaava. Renowned for his unwavering commitment and thorough preparation for his roles, Kaushal articulated his reflections on embodying this historical figure, who is deeply associated with the principles of duty, sacrifice, and heritage. He noted that the preparation for Chhaava was distinct from any other biographical film he has undertaken, as it required a profound dedication to authentically and respectfully represent such an important personality.
In a recent interview, Vicky highlighted the importance of depicting a character who upholds the legacy of the illustrious Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and his son, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, whose contributions were crucial to India's history. “The opportunity to be part of this film is a blessing for me. I never imagined I would have this chance. Growing up in Mumbai, I have always been aware of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's history. While Shivaji Maharaj is widely recognized, his son, who continued his father's legacy and sacrificed his life in the struggle against the Mughal Empire, remains less known. This film aims to unveil that untold narrative to the audience,” Kaushal stated.
Vicky recognized the weight of responsibility that accompanied his preparation for this role. “This project transcends a typical biopic. It carries a profound sense of trust that we must honour. Our approach needed to be genuine, which demanded extensive preparation. I was fortunate to receive guidance from Laxman sir, who dedicated considerable time to mentor me throughout this journey. Whether it involved gaining 25 kg, training in horseback riding and sword fighting, mastering the language, or delving into historical studies, every aspect was vital. This character is intense, and portraying someone tasked with continuing Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy is no small feat.”
The physical transformation necessary for this role was considerable, and Vicky dedicated himself fully to the task. "It was crucial for me to get in shape for this role. Following my work in Sam Bahadur, I transitioned into Chhaava, and the two characters were vastly different. I had to concentrate on three primary areas: muscle development, mastering horseback riding, and sword fighting. The action sequences were authentic; no visual effects were employed, and the training spanned approximately 6-7 months."
Vicky also commented on Katrina Kaif's response to his involvement in Chhaava and the demands of such a rigorous role. "Katrina, being part of the same industry, comprehends the dedication required for intense characters. She was supportive and understanding throughout the journey. I typically do not bring my work home, but after portraying such roles, I tend to become more reserved. It requires a lot of mental processing," he explained.
On a lighter note, Vicky mentioned Katrina's fondness for his physical transformation for Chhaava. "She misses my physique from Chhaava. She is eagerly anticipating the start of our next film, Mahavatar, where I will need to sustain that physique."
