Kartik Aaryan Opens Up About His 'Love-Hate Relationship' with Karan Johar

Actor Kartik Aaryan and filmmaker Karan Johar's professional relationship has been a topic of speculation, particularly following their alleged disagreement in 2021 during the production of Dostana 2. Recently, Kartik has provided insight into their current relationship, characterizing it as a "love-hate bond."

During a recent SCREEN LIVE event in Mumbai, Kartik discussed his relationship with Karan after being shown a photograph of the two together, in which Karan is seen playfully pulling Kartik's ear.
Reflecting on the image, Kartik remarked, “What can I say about this? I believe this exemplifies a love and hate relationship… This photo captures that sentiment perfectly.”
He noted that the photograph was taken just prior to their collaboration on Dostana 2. Kartik explained, “This moment was from when we signed our first film together, which was supposed to happen. I think he was aware that I… so he took the picture beforehand.”
Kartik also mentioned that he is set to work with Karan once more on a film titled Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. This project is being produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Sameer Vidwans, with a release date anticipated in 2026.
He expressed enthusiasm about their renewed collaboration and conveyed his hope that this film will indeed come to fruition. Kartik emphasized his genuine desire for this project to materialize this time.
About the feud
In 2021, various reports indicated that Kartik and Karan Johar experienced a fallout, which ultimately led to the actor's departure from Dostana 2. In this sequel to Tarun Mansukhani's 2008 romantic comedy hit, Kartik was initially slated to star alongside Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya.
At that time, it was reported that Kartik was removed from the film due to his disruptive behavior on set. Dharma Productions released a statement asserting that, with respect for everyone's privacy, the project had been put on hold and would undergo recasting and reshooting in the future.
Since that incident, Karan and Kartik have encountered each other at various film events, maintaining a friendly demeanor. They even participated together in the inauguration of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, where Karan expressed positive sentiments about Kartik. He remarked, "Kartik's films have profoundly resonated with the nation and have consistently revitalized the cinema experience. Wishing him continued success. May his contributions to the film industry persist. Well done, Kartik."
