Actor Kartik Aaryan admitted to having fabricated a detail in order to secure a role in a film. He recently revealed that he misrepresented his swimming abilities to impress filmmaker Kabir Khan for a part in Chandu Champion.

What did he say

During a discussion at Agenda Aaj Tak 2024, Kartik reflected on his experience with the film Chandu Champion, disclosing that he lied about his swimming proficiency to obtain the role in the project directed by Kabir Khan, as reported by India Today.

At one point in the discussion, Kartik was queried about whether he had ever been dishonest for a film. He acknowledged that he had done so for Chandu Champion when Kabir inquired if he was capable of swimming.

"I had already perused the script and was genuinely enthusiastic about it. So when Kabir sir asked me if I was skilled in professional swimming, I falsely claimed that I was. In truth, I could only manage to stay afloat,” he stated.

Kartik, who underwent a significant physical transformation for the biopic, dedicated considerable effort to rectify his falsehood and learn to swim. In the film, he is depicted swimming and earning a medal for his efforts.

He mentioned that he trained rigorously for a year and a half. "One and a half minutes of deception cost me one and a half years,” Kartik humorously remarked.

About the film

The film "Chandu Champion" is a biographical portrayal of Murlikant Petkar, who holds the distinction of being India's inaugural Paralympic gold medalist, born on November 1, 1944, in Maharashtra. The narrative explores various stages and challenges throughout his life. Petkar demonstrated exceptional talent in several sports, particularly in wrestling and hockey. This film also represents the first partnership between Kartik and Kabir. It is co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan.

Released on June 14, the film did not achieve commercial success at the box office.
