Sathyam Sundaram featuring Karthi and Arvind Swamy is set for a release on September 27, 2024. Karth i spoke to us about the film script, his working experience on such a simple film, sharing screen space with Arvind Swamy, having a different title in Telugu, and future projects. Here is the transcript.
Reason behind releasing the film alongside Devara?
For starters, in Tamil, Sathyam Sundaram is having a perfect release with no other big film releasing on September 27, 2024. But when it comes to Telugu, Devara is releasing and obviously, there will be a lot of hype and buzz on the NTR starrer. But the star cast of our film is different. Once you end up watching Devara, you can give Sathyam Sundaram a shot and I promise it won't disappoint you.
How did you bag this project?
I came to know that Prem Kumar had written a script for me and approached him. He did not narrate the script but gave me a novel to read. I took a lot of time to complete the book but while I was reading it, I had tears in my eyes. Then, Prem came to me and gave me the narration and how he adapted the book.
What attracted you towards this village drama?
The innocence in the story grabbed my attention. In today's world, even a 10-year-old kid does now show any innocence. What is our journey in life, how we are living in today's world, and what are we leaving behind as human beings is the basic story of the film. The film takes you back to the K Vishwanath era where he narrated films with earthy and simple emotions.
Working with the likes of Arvind Swamy?
Right from the day one, Prem and I had only Arvind in our minds. We even approached him with the thought that if Arvind does not say okay to the film, we will not make it in the first place. But as soon as Arvind heard the script, he loved it big time and came on board right away. We share an adorable chemistry in the film which will move you to tears.
About Govind Vasantha's music?
He has a good following in Telugu states as well. It is his music and background score that elevates the emotions in a beautiful manner. In fact, his score has poured life into our film and his support is massive in the success of the film.
About Surya's involvement in the film?
The moment he heard the script, Surya said where do you get such good films. He loved the story and decided to produce it right away. There is no entertainment, song, dance, and fight routine in the film. But still, the emotional journey of the characters will move you. I also reduced my remuneration as it our home production.
What made you give a new title to the film in Telugu?
I feel the language should be respected and that is the reason, we changed the title in Telugu. I am also the one who does not like the idea of having the same title for all languages. After seeing the film in Telugu, I felt that Sathyam Sundaram is an apt title as the film is about the characters of mine and Arvind Swamy.
Future Projects?
I am doing a lot of films with new directors. They have come up with crazy projects and will showcase me in a new manner. But at the same time, I am working with the likes of Prem Kumar as they bring some unique stories told in a very commercial format. Sathyam Sundaram is one of them.
