As soon as she arrived, host Conan O'Brien didn't hold back, giving her a savage roast that included jabs about her publicist and those infamous tweets.

Karla Sofia Gascon skipped a bunch of award shows leading up to the Oscars after some of her old controversial tweets came back to haunt her. Just days before the big night, it was announced that she would be attending the ceremony, where she's up for Best Actress.

Conan O'Brien didn't hold back when he got to Karla and the drama, joking, “Fun fact for you, Anora drops the F-bomb 479 times. That’s three more than the record held by Karla Sofia Gascon's publicist.” He then pretended to be her publicist on the phone, yelling, “She tweeted what?”

Turning to Sofia, Conan quipped, “Sofia, if you plan to tweet about the Oscars tonight, just remember, my name is Jimmy Kimmel.”

The debate

Sources close to Gascon told Deadline that Netflix will be covering her costs to attend the 97th Academy Awards, just two days before the event. There was some uncertainty about her invitation due to recent controversies over offensive tweets from 2020 and 2021.

These tweets contained insensitive comments on topics like Muslims, George Floyd, and the Black Lives Matter movement, which sparked a lot of backlash and caused Netflix to distance themselves from her and the film.

Earlier this year, Karla Sofia Gascon made history as the first transwoman nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars, receiving acclaim for her role in Jacques Audiard's musical, Emilia Perez. The 97th Academy Awards will be streamed live on JioHotstar in India.
