Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder who stabbed him several times in the early hours of January 16. The incident occurred at the actor's residence in Bandra, where he lives with his wife, Kareena Kapoor, and their two children. In a conversation with Delhi Times, Saif disclosed that Kareena was calling out for a rickshaw or a cab as they both sought transportation to the hospital.
What Saif said
During the interview, Saif recounted an incident in which Kareena was present in their home when an intruder entered the premises. He explained, “Kareena had just returned from dinner, and I was preparing for work the following morning, so I remained at home. After she arrived, we conversed briefly before going to bed. Not long after, the house staff burst in, exclaiming, ‘There’s an intruder! A man is in Jeh's room with a knife demanding money!’”
Saif further described how he lost his composure and seized the intruder in an attempt to subdue him. He endured blows to his back and sustained cuts on his wrist and neck. While he was engaged in a struggle with the intruder, Kareena managed to take Jeh and moved to Taimur's room, all the while shouting for the children to be evacuated.
‘Kareena was shouting for a rickshaw’
Saif elaborated on the sequence of events that followed the incident. He recounted, "Kareena insisted, ‘No, we need to leave! We must get you to a hospital, and I need to take Jeh away from here because I sense he is still nearby, and there may be more of them.’ Consequently, we all proceeded downstairs. Kareena was urgently calling for a rickshaw, a cab, or any available transport. I mentioned that I was experiencing some pain and that something felt amiss with my back. She replied that I should go to the hospital while she would head to her sister Karisma Kapoor's residence. She was making frantic phone calls, but no one was answering. We exchanged glances, and I reassured her, ‘I’m fine. I’m not going to die.’"
The actor arrived at Lilavati Hospital at 3 a.m. on January 16 and remained there for five days. He underwent a five-hour surgical procedure at the same hospital on Thursday and was later transferred to the ICU. A fragment of the knife was removed from his body. Saif was discharged from the hospital on January 21.
Saif made his first public appearance following the attack at a Netflix event to promote his forthcoming film, Jewel Thief.
