About Zakir Hussain
Zakir passed away in a San Francisco hospital, as his family shared on Monday. He succumbed to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and was 73 years old. After spending two weeks in the hospital, his condition worsened, leading to his transfer to the ICU.
Known as the greatest tabla player of his time, Zakir is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and his daughters, Anisa and Isabella Qureshi. Born on March 9, 1951, he was the son of the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha. The family’s statement highlighted that he leaves behind an incredible legacy that will be treasured by music lovers worldwide for many years to come.
