Kareena Kapoor Can't Afford Security Despite ₹21 Crore Fee, Says Director Akashdeep Sabir

Director and actor Akashdeep Sabir, along with his wife Sheeba, addressed the recent stabbing incident involving Saif Ali Khan. In an interview with Lehren Retro, Akashdeep made a pointed remark about the actor, suggesting that despite her substantial earnings of ₹21 crore, she was unable to hire a security guard for her residence.

During the discussion, the couple also touched upon the issue of pay parity in the film industry. Sheeba noted that the repercussions of a film's failure tend to impact male actors more significantly than their female counterparts, resulting in higher salaries for men.

In response, Akashdeep argued that the conversation around pay parity began a few years ago when Kareena Kapoor Khan set her fees in double digits. Sheeba then highlighted the considerable disparity that still exists between the earnings of male and female actors.

Later in the conversation, Akashdeep further criticized Kareena in relation to the stabbing incident, stating, "Even with a ₹21 crore salary, Kareena cannot afford a security guard for her home. Perhaps when you start paying ₹100 crore, then they might be able to afford security or even a night driver."

Akashdeep questions the absence of the couple's guard, and full-time driver at night

He also remarked that he participated in television debates to support Saif and Kareena, describing them as a dignified and distinguished couple. However, he pointed out two significant issues raised during the debates. When questioned about the absence of a security guard outside their residence, he noted that while people claim the building is very secure due to its 30 CCTV cameras, such surveillance does not prevent crime. He emphasized that CCTV can only assist in solving crimes after they occur, rather than stopping them in the first place. The mere presence of numerous cameras does not equate to safety, particularly in light of the lack of a full-time driver during nighttime hours.

Akashdeep concluded by stating that Kareena and Saif have endured considerable challenges and deserve the opportunity to heal.

Akashdeep is known for directing films such as Ghaath and Miss 420. He recently appeared as Mr Mehtani in Alia Bhatt's film Jigra.

Regarding Saif, he experienced a knife attack at his residence in January. The 54-year-old actor was repeatedly stabbed by an intruder during a robbery attempt at his 12th-floor apartment in Satguru Sharan, located in Mumbai's Bandra area, in the early hours of January 16. Following the incident, he underwent surgery and was discharged four days later.

On Monday evening, he made his first public appearance at a Netflix event, where he attended the slate announcement and expressed that it felt "nice to be standing" before an audience.
