Filmmaker Karan Johar has introduced a bunch of fresh talent to the Hindi film scene over the years. However, his standout discoveries are probably the trio from Student of the Year - Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra. Recently, while chatting on Komal Nahta's podcast Game Changers, Karan shared the reason behind instructing his team to treat those newcomers like 'megastars.'

Karan shared an interesting story on the podcast about how he met the three young actors. He mentioned that he never saw them as newbies. "Honestly, I told my team—Siddharth and Varun, who were my assistants—and I first met Alia when she was just coming back from school. When I launched them, I made it clear to everyone on set, including the choreographer, production team, and designer, to treat these three like they were already megastars," he explained.

He went on to say that the crew was curious about his request, so he clarified his reasoning. “They wanted to know what I meant. I told them, ‘If you give them that confidence, they’ll act like stars in front of the camera. If you treat them like newcomers, they’ll perform like newcomers.’ And guess what? They totally shone like stars. They all call me 'Karna' now; we’re like friends. We even did a 12-day workshop together to bond and get to know each other better," the filmmaker added.

Launched in 2012, Student of the Year is a coming-of-age sports drama that introduced Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra to the acting scene. The movie did really well at the box office, raking in more than ₹100 crore. After this film, all three actors enjoyed thriving careers in Bollywood. A follow-up featuring Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria hit theaters in 2019.
