Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency was supposed to be released in September this year. Days before the film's release, Kangana announced that her film had been postponed. Central Board of Film Certification hadn't given a clearance to the actress' directorial venture. It was only recently that CBFC certified Emergency. The certification happened only after the modifications were made to the film.
CBFC demands cuts in Kangana Ranaut's Emergency?
Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency was cleared for a theatrical release after revisions. Many references to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were among CBFC's requested cuts. "While in one instance, the name has been replaced with Woh, another sequence had the chant Sant Bhindranwale Zindabad. That was modified to Zindabad. Plus, a scene in which Bhindranwale says that he isn’t a puppet of the Congress party has been tweaked," a source told Mid-Day.
The violence in Kangana's film has been toned down. Moreover, a scene of firing in front of the bus has been entirely dropped from the movie. The disclaimer of Ranaut's movie now clarifies that Emergency is inspired by true events. However, 'dramatic transformation' has been added.
"The board members also requested a factual reference for a scene that saw Jawaharlal Nehru make a remark about Assam; it was submitted by the makers. The same stands true for another scene involving a conversation between Sanjay Gandhi and Giani Zail Singh," the source added. Overall, 35 seconds of footage has been deleted from the film and 28 seconds of footage has been replaced.
