Kangana shares her experiences and the difficulties she faced during the Emergency period.
There were definitely a lot of struggles along the way... we encountered numerous challenges. It wasn't a smooth journey at all; it was packed with hardships. We had to present this film to various communities, and every little detail was put under the microscope. After overcoming all those hurdles, we’ve finally made it to this point. We really believe in our constitution, our country, and the censor board that has given us the green light to share our film with everyone. We can't wait to show it to the world, Kangana said.
Kangana decided to sell her property to deal with the Emergency situation.
Kangana ended up having to sell her property in Mumbai after the film's release got delayed. She never expected to face such challenges while working on a movie.
"I honestly had no clue I would go through such tough times during this project. Normally, my films are produced with a pretty comfortable budget, but this time, I encountered numerous obstacles—whether it was with studios or funding. The biggest issue was the uncertainty surrounding the film's release. We were constantly wondering, 'Will it actually come out or not?'" Kangana shared.
About challenges Emergency faced
Kangana's second directorial venture dives into the 21-month Emergency period that was enforced by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi between 1975 and 1977.
The film, titled Emergency, was supposed to hit theaters on September 6, 2024, but it missed that date because it couldn't get the necessary clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Additionally, it faced criticism from some Sikh groups who claimed the film misrepresented the events of that time.
