Kangana Ranaut has expressed her views following Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's endorsement of her stance and her response to the recent remarks made by actor and Samajwadi Party member Jaya Bachchan. Jaya had recently alleged that the government is attempting to "destroy" the film industry and called for it to show "compassion" towards the sector.

FM reminds Jaya Bachchan how her ‘alliance partner’ demolished Kangana Ranaut's office

The official account of the Nirmala Sitharaman Office addressed the situation on X (formerly Twitter), detailing how the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, which included Jaya's party as an alliance member, 'intimidated and demolished' Kangana Ranaut's office in Mumbai within a mere 24 hours.

The Finance Minister further urged Jaya to "discuss this matter with her alliance partners." On Friday, Kangana expressed her gratitude to the minister for bringing attention to the infringement of her "constitutional rights by the overbearing political parties."

On Thursday evening, @nsitharamanoffc tweeted, "Jaya Ji has alleged that the Film Industry hasn't been supported by the government. However, she will well remember Hon'ble MP (LS) Smt Kangana Ranaut (@KanganaTeam). The MVA Govt, her alliance partner, in September 2020 in Mumbai, intimidated Ms Ranaut & in a notice of 24 hours, demolished her office until the Bombay High Court intervened. Jaya Bachchan Ji must speak to her alliance partners about that."

"Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar Ji's brother, got fired from All India Radio because his composition didn't sit well with the Congress party. Also, Majrooh Sultanpuri was jailed. Dev Anand was threatened for not supporting the Emergency. Kishore Kumar was also pulled off air," it read.

Kangana thanks Nirmala Sitharaman

In response to the tweet, Kangana expressed her gratitude, stating, "I extend my heartfelt thanks to the esteemed @nsitharaman ji for emphasizing the support and encouragement that the film industry receives from our government. Additionally, as a woman, you have brought attention to my challenges and the ways in which my constitutional rights have been undermined by the haughty political parties. I am truly grateful (folded hands emoji)."

What Jaya had said

During the General Discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26 in the Rajya Sabha, Jaya urged the government to formulate proposals aimed at supporting the film industry in its struggle for survival. She highlighted the challenges faced by daily wage workers and noted the closure of single-screen theatres, attributing this to the rising costs that deter audiences from attending movie halls.

"You have completely overlooked one industry, a trend that has persisted under previous administrations as well. However, your government has escalated this neglect to unprecedented levels. The film and entertainment sector has been disregarded entirely, as it seems you only utilize it for your own ends. Currently, aside from the issue of GST, single-screen theatres are closing down. The exorbitant costs have led to a decline in movie attendance. It appears you may be intent on extinguishing this industry altogether. This is the sole industry that forges a connection between the entire world and India," Jaya stated.

She called for compassion towards the nation's audio-visual sector, asserting that cinema is being unfairly targeted. "I am advocating for my film industry and making a plea to this House on behalf of the audio-visual sector: please show them some consideration. Have mercy on them. You are on the path to destroying this industry. Please refrain from doing so. Today, it seems you have begun to target cinema as well," the actor remarked.
