Kangana Ranaut Responds to Emergency Ban in Punjab: ‘A Targeted Effort to Tarnish My Reputation’
2 months ago | 5 Views
Multiple reports indicate that the release of Kangana Ranaut's film "Emergency" has been halted in various regions of Punjab, including Patiala, Amritsar, and Bathinda, due to concerns over potential protests. In response to these challenges, the actress has characterized the situation as a "complete harassment" of artists.
Kangana emphasized her respect for all religions and suggested that the unrest surrounding her film is a form of "propaganda" aimed at undermining its success.
Kangana's Emergency faces issues
The film's team has issued a statement confirming that the release of the political drama has been suspended in the aforementioned cities. This decision was made following communications from local authorities expressing worries about possible protests and the risk of disturbances that could threaten public safety.
The statement noted that the local administrations in these three cities have adopted a precautionary approach, indicating that the film's content might incite unrest among specific groups.
Kangana reacts
In her remarks on X, previously known as Twitter, Kangana voiced her frustration regarding the barriers her film is encountering.
"This is complete harassment of art and the artist; reports from many cities in Punjab indicate that these individuals are preventing 'Emergency' from being screened," she stated.
Kangana Ranaut further asserted, "I hold the highest respect for all religions, and having grown up in Chandigarh, I have closely studied and followed the Sikh faith. This is a total fabrication and a campaign to damage my reputation and jeopardize my film #Emergency."
This development follows a letter from Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, requesting a ban on the film's screening in the state. The film has faced controversy after Sikh organizations, including the SGPC and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), accused it of misrepresenting the Sikh community and presenting inaccurate information.
