The controversy surrounding Kangana Ranaut and Aditya Pancholi has been a recurring topic of discussion over the years. Their allegedly tumultuous relationship garnered extensive media coverage, making headlines for various reasons. Recently, the issue resurfaced when Pancholi’s wife, Zarina Wahab, made candid revelations about her husband, their personal lives, and more. Among these was a surprising claim: Wahab alleged that Kangana replaced her daughter Sana in the 2007 film Shakalaka Boom Boom, which was originally supposed to mark Sana’s Bollywood debut.
Kangana Ranaut Replaced Aditya Pancholi’s Daughter in Shakalaka Boom Boom
The 2007 film Shakalaka Boom Boom—not to be confused with the popular children’s television show—starred Bobby Deol, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitly, and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles. Directed by Suneel Darshan, the movie explored the rivalry and eventual collaboration between two musicians from contrasting musical backgrounds. In an interview with Lehren Retro, Zarina Wahab shared how Kangana ended up replacing her daughter Sana in the project.
She explained, "That was not her cup of tea. She never wanted to be an actress. Like how families sometimes insist, ‘Kar lo beta,’ but she was firm, saying, ‘No, mumma, I don’t want to do it.’ Firstly, she doesn’t wear sleeveless tops or short clothes. She was given a low-neck outfit to wear, and she came back running. She didn’t even step out of her room. Then they cast someone else—that was the main thing. She still doesn’t wear such clothes.”
Wahab further emphasized that Sana has no aspirations to be an actress and added, “We never even talk about it now, not even in a joking way.”
Suneel Darshan on Kangana Ranaut’s Casting
Earlier this year, director Suneel Darshan also discussed the casting switch. According to him, Kangana was initially cast for the role but disappeared mid-project, leaving the filmmakers in a bind. Subsequently, Sana was considered for the role, but Darshan felt she wasn’t the right fit. Kangana was eventually located in Dubai and flown to Johannesburg to complete the shoot.
Speaking to Times Now, Darshan said: "We had almost locked her (Kangana) for the role, but then she suddenly went off the radar and was untraceable. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out with Sana, as the role demanded a different personality and profile. Kangana was eventually traced in Dubai and immediately flown into Johannesburg to start filming."
