Kangana Ranaut Rejects Padmaavat Role, Critiques Character Depth
2 months ago | 5 Views
Kangana Ranaut has been candid in her discussions while promoting her latest film, Emergency. The actress has revealed that she was presented with numerous film opportunities, including an offer to portray Rani Padmavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, a role that ultimately went to Deepika Padukone. Kangana stated that she was not interested in the costume aspect of the character and consequently declined the role that audiences appreciated in Deepika's performance.
What Kangana Ranaut said
During a discussion with Abhijeet Bharti, Kangana revealed that she had been offered a role in Padmaavat but chose to decline it. She recounted her interaction with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, which ultimately influenced her decision. Kangana expressed her desire to review the film's script; however, Bhansali declined her request. When inquiring about the character of the heroine, Bhansali informed Kangana that Padmavati would be preparing herself while the hero, portrayed by Shahid Kapoor, gazed upon her. "Upon viewing the film, I recognized that the heroine indeed spends the entire movie getting ready, and he was correct," she remarked.
How netizens are reacting to Kangana Ranaut's statement on Padmavati's role in Padmaavat
Many internet users concurred with Kangana's assertion that Padmavati primarily served as a visual spectacle throughout the film. Those who revisited the movie noted that Padmavati's role largely revolved around dancing and dressing up, at least until the concluding scene.
About Padmaavat and Emergency and their similar (almost) tragic fate
SLB's Padmaavat, featuring Ranveer Singh in the principal role, encountered significant opposition prior to its premiere. The film's set was vandalized on three occasions in effort to halt the production. Following these challenges, Padmaavat (a title that was altered) ultimately made its debut in cinemas.
Kangana's Emergency also faced considerable challenges, this time with the censor board. The film experienced prolonged delays, which significantly postponed its release. Originally slated for an October 2024 launch, the movie has only recently been released in January 2025.
