Kangana Ranaut Reflects on Controversies: "Men's Words Shaped My Narrative"

2 months ago | 5 Views

Actress Kangana Ranaut is recognized for her forthright and unrepentant nature. In a recent interview, she discussed the various controversies that have marked her career, noting that a significant number of them originated from remarks made by men about her. Kangana underscored her belief that this situation is unjust.

Kangana speaks her mind

In a recent interview with The New Indian, Kangana Ranaut discussed her latest film, Emergency, which explores the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. When questioned about the elements of Gandhi's life that she incorporated into the film, Kangana responded, “During my research, I encountered discussions about her sensational relationships and friendships, which I found quite shocking. I questioned why a woman should be defined solely by the men she has interacted with, regardless of the nature of those interactions. This perspective seemed fundamentally flawed to me. Therefore, I made a conscious effort to avoid that narrative and focused instead on her role as a Prime Minister, examining her achievements and failures as part of the story.”

Kangana elaborated on her decision to steer clear of personal aspects, stating, “I believe it is demeaning for a woman to be categorized in such a manner. In my own career as an actress, I have often found that controversies surrounding me are predominantly based on what men have said—whether it be someone filing a lawsuit against me or derogatory remarks that overshadow my credibility as an artist. This is unjust.”

In 2016, Hrithik Roshan initiated legal action against Kangana concerning a series of emails exchanged between them. Hrithik's complaint alleged that an individual impersonating him was sending emails to Kangana from a fraudulent email address. Kangana countered that Hrithik had provided her with the email address, and they had been in communication through it until 2014. The emails in question were reportedly sent during 2013 and 2014.

Additionally, a few years prior, Kangana's former partner, actor Adhyayan Suman, accused her of making him consume her menstrual blood. Their relationship lasted for a few months, from 2008 to 2009.
