Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 is one of the most-awaited movies of 2024. Director Shankar has already completed the shoot, and the film is now in post-production.

According to industry sources, the filmmakers have planned a grand audio release event for Indian 2 in mid-May. The event is expected to take place at Chennai's Nehru Stadium with many high-profile guests in attendance.

Indian 2 is scheduled to hit the screens in June. The filmmakers have not confirmed the release date yet. But it's safe to assume that it will only happen after all the dust settles after the announcement of the results of the Lok Sabha elections. The election results will come out on June 4.

The parliamentary elections were the main reason behind many highly-awaited movies in Tamil postponing their releases. Traditionally, the month of April is a coveted time for filmmakers to release big-budget movies to cash in on the summer holidays. With the country in the grip of Lok Sabha elections, the filmmakers have steered clear of taking the risks of releasing their new films in cinemas.

And this has resulted in a dry spell at the box office in Tamil Nadu, with theatres starving for fresh Tamil content. So much so that stakeholders are relying on the nostalgic effect of past blockbusters to bring the crowd to cinemas.

The drought-like situation at the box office is expected to come to an end with the release of Indian 2. Even though it's not officially confirmed, the buzz is that it might hit the screens in the second week of June.

Indian 2 is a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster, and it marks the return of Kamal's iconic character Senapathy —a freedom fighter turned anti-corruption crusader. Indian featured Kamal in a double role and remains a landmark movie in the history of Tamil cinema.
