Kamal Haasan and Trisha Krishnan are currently busy promoting their new movie, Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam. During a promotional event alongside their co-star Silambarasan TR, Kamal made a joke about Trisha that didn't sit well with fans online.

What did Kamal Haasan tell Trisha Krishnan?

Trisha was responding to a question about her favorite food when she mentioned, “I enjoy all of them, but I really love boiled banana. What’s it called again?” She was talking about pazham pori, which are banana fritters. After a moment, Kamal chimed in to remind her of the name and joked, “She might not know the name, but she sure loves eating it.” Trisha laughed, and a few moments later, Kamal gave her a friendly pat on the knee to show he was just kidding. Their playful exchange is making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter).

The internet responds to Kamal Haasan's joke about Trisha

Some people on the internet didn't take the joke very well. One user on X commented, “Eww eww eww,” under the video. Another chimed in with, “Toxic Kamal,” questioning whether Trisha would react like she did when Mansoor Ali Khan made a comment. One person noted, “18+ Dawww,” while another imagined, “What if Chiranjeevi said thattt?”

On the flip side, Kamal's fans jumped to his defense. One fan remarked, “The filth lies in the mind looking for dirt. @ikamalhaasan has often joked about his fellow actors' Tamizh. There’s nothing offensive here.” Another added, “What’s the double meaning? It’s clear that KH intended it as a joke, but he chose his words poorly. He quickly realized it and patted Trisha to ease the awkwardness, and props to the host for changing the subject.”

Mani’s Thug Life features Kamal, Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Abhirami, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri. The film is set to hit theaters on June 5. This marks the second collaboration between Kamal and Mani after Nayakan (1987).
