Kamal Haasan made his acting debut at the age of 6, with the iconic film Kalathur Kannamma. The multi-faceted talent, who played a supporting role in the Gemini Ganesan starrer, won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist, for his performance in the film. Interestingly, Kamal Haasan completed 65 years in the film industry today (August 12, 2024), thus emerging as one of the most senior living artists of contemporary Indian cinema. The makers of Thug Life celebrated the special occasion, with a heartwarming social media post.

The cast and crew members of Thug Life, the upcoming Kamal Haasan starrer directed by Mani Ratnam, wished their leading man for completing 65 years in the industry, with a special note. The team shared a lovely location still of the Ulaganayagan and the veteran filmmaker, which was taken while their involved in a serious conversation. “65 years ago, the world witnessed the arrival of a future cinematic colossus,” wrote the members of the production banner Madras Talkies, in their post.

“With his baby steps in cinema growing into giant strides over the decades, Kamal Haasan continues to expand the artistic boundaries of Indian cinema with his unrelenting pursuit of artistic excellence. The new location still from the sets of Thug Life, which was released along with the post, is now going viral on social media.

As you may know, Thug Life marks Kamal Haasan’s second collaboration with director Mani Ratnam, after a long gap of over 37 years. The duo’s first project together, Nayakan, was a major critical and commercial success, and eventually earned the cult-classic status. As the title reveal teaser suggested, the Ulaganayagan is set to play the character named Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar, in the period action drama. Thug Life is expected to hit the theatres in December 2024, as a Christmas special release.
