Singer Kalpana Raghavendar conducted a press conference in Chennai on Monday, addressing the circulation of misleading narratives regarding her recent overdose incident. She expressed that these rumors are contributing to her 'mental distress' and openly discussed the challenges she has been facing in both her mental and physical health.

Regarding her overdose, Kalpana urged the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances, particularly as she has been transparent about her accidental overdose on sleeping pills following a particularly stressful day, as reported by Lankasri. She emphasized that she is a woman in her 40s nearing menopause and disclosed that she had also developed a lung condition earlier this year.

The combination of her health issues, insomnia, her pursuit of an LLB degree, and her singing career has led to significant stress, which she sought to alleviate through sleep. Kalpana specifically criticized certain gossip YouTube channels for perpetuating false narratives about her allegedly attempting suicide due to family conflicts, which have exacerbated her mental distress.

What happened

In the events leading up to her hospitalization, Kalpana's husband contacted neighbors and the police when she failed to respond to his calls after returning from Kochi to Hyderabad. Upon their arrival, the police discovered her unconscious at home and initially suspected a suicide attempt. However, after her recovery, Kalpana clarified to the authorities that it was an accidental overdose.

To further clarify the situation, Kalpana released videos in both Telugu and Tamil, asserting that her husband and daughter were not involved in the incident. She explained that she had taken prescribed sleeping pills for her insomnia but inadvertently overdosed. She expressed gratitude towards her husband for his role in saving her life.

She stated, “Please do not believe any reports suggesting I have personal issues. My husband Prasad Prabhakar is the greatest blessing in my life, and I am incredibly fortunate to have him. Additionally, my daughter, Daya Prasad, is another immense blessing.”
